How we work

Getting started

Once you get in touch, we will arrange a time to have a brief telephone conversation. This is an opportunity for you to talk about what you would like help with, ask questions and for us to see if we could be a good fit.

Following this, if we agree to proceed, we will discuss which clinicians are available to meet with you and start the process of booking your first appointment.

Cost and payment

A 50 minute session costs £120 with a psychologist, or £75 with a cognitive behavioural therapist. If you are self-funding the sessions (rather than using health insurance) , there is a £50 non-refundable, non-transferable booking fee to pay. The remaining cost of the session fee is payable before your first appointment. If you miss this first appointment, the £50 booking fee is forfeit.

Health insurance clients do not need to pay the booking fee. We offer sessions covered by a range of health insurers including BUPA, AXA and Aviva – please contact us for details.

Next steps

Upon payment of the booking fee, the initial appointment is confirmed and additional paperwork will be sent to you to complete and return prior to the first appointment.

First session

At the initial appointments, your clinician will ask a series of questions to help them gain a fuller picture of the issue you are seeking help with. This will remain confidential unless they have concerns for your safety or the safety of someone else. This helps them to see if they are a good fit for you in terms of their experience and your needs. They will make recommendations for therapy/support at the end of the assessment.

If you are both happy to proceed you will then agree subsequent appointments and a care plan.

Please note that the initial assessment is not a guarantee that we will continue to meet for therapy. We will discuss this further at the assessment. It may be that following assessment we feel that we are not the best service to help you.

It is important that you are open with your clinician if you have questions or concerns about any aspect of your care, so they can ensure they are supporting you appropriately.

Location

Sessions are currently online only, which allows for more flexibility than if we were to meet face to face. Evidence suggests that online sessions are just as effective as working face to face.

Ongoing sessions

Length of therapy can vary depending on the problem and type of therapy being used, however many people start to see benefits after 3-6 sessions. This is affected by severity, individual differences and other factors.
